Making it up as I go along

What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it?

I’m always making something. My mother-in-law said recently that I can’t stay still, and I’m starting to see some truth in that. Recently, I’ve made another couple loaves of artisan bread. I made myself memorize Mary Oliver’s poem The Summer Day. I’ve made plans. I made love. I’ve made the chore of walking the dogs 4-plus times a day into a ritual of attention. I made yarn out of fluff. I’ve made countless cups of tea. Some days, I’ve even made the bed.

Reverb 10 is an opportunity to reflect on this year past and manifest forward into 2011. This project involves daily prompts throughout the month of December and you can learn more about it—and join!—here and you can follow participants on Twitter using the #reverb10 hashtag.

I love the idea of making the dog-walking a ritual of attention. Is it specifically attention to them, or is it broader?

Since I walk the dogs multiple times a day, it’s a mix of both, Kristi. Sometimes it’s paying attention to the dogs and really engaging them. Sometimes it’s paying attention to my surroundings, the subtle changes day to day, week to week. Mainly I’m just doing a lot to make sure I treat the dog walking like a treat or an opportunity, not a chore.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Kristi!
